This is a guest blog by a parent participant of our HANDLE Weekend Course
One thing that drew me to HANDLE was its non-labelling approach. Being from a holistic and creative background, this approach really suited my personal beliefs and ethos.
Attending HANDLE 1 and 2 was such an eye opener into the workings of our body and neurological system for me. HANDLE’s way of explaining how all the different neuro/ behavioural systems fit together I found incredibly fascinating.
It truly is the most holistic way of understanding these systems that I’ve come across.
The medical profession wants to label our struggles with various names and limitations.
HANDLE seeks to understand why the body is doing something, and how to take the pressure off. Isn’t that after all what every one seeks on a mental, emotional and physical level?
How beautiful.
HANDLE is quite profound. It appears simple, but the approach is life changing.
And of course learning about Judith Bluestone’s personal transformative story and creation of HANDLE is utterly inspiring. Truly remarkable.
I’ll always remember the diagram of the tree that Sean shared on the course. Once you learn about that, you just can’t go back to seeing the systems of the body separately, and you realise how absolutely unique (of course) each person is, and how everyone benefits from a recipe that is individual to them.
We all struggle to some degree being in the human form, some more than others.
The weekend course was very loving/ nurturing/ caring/ gentle and informative as one would expect from Sean, Sarah and HANDLE. A great mix of information provision, practical and group exercises, and sharing food and bonding socially. All in all a deep learning experience, and an enjoyable one, in a beautiful setting.
I would recommend it to anyone living with or having children with ADHD/ ASD/ or working in any caring profession or setting; teachers/ healthcare professionals/ Holistic practitioners. Or just for the curious. If HANDLE comes into your life as it did mine, follow your nose, be curious.
We meet so many parents of children struggling with ASD/ ADHD or just struggling with concentration/ anxiety/ other life navigation skills, my wish is that more and more families would become aware of and seek the benefit of HANDLE.
