This year we are very excited to be offering the first HANDLE Level 4 Practitioner Course in Europe since 2009. Due to lots of interest we will also be offering a HANDLE Level 3 Screener Course beginning in the autumn.
So, whether you've come to HANDLE as a professional or a parent, why go further with your HANDLE training? We asked some colleagues what is special about working as a HANDLE professional. Here is what they said, in full:
"Being a HANDLE Practitioner:
-Allows me to help people using an approach that enhances and protects them and me.
-Gives me integrative tools to use flexibly so that each client can move tangibly toward his or her goals.
-Lets me be flexible in my own work day and week.
-Keeps me physically fit and neurologically strong. ”
Janet Oliver, HANDLE Practitioner, Supervisor and Instructor, Minneapolis, USA.
“Before HANDLE, I was an "ordinary" teacher. Reacted with "ordinary" pedagogic instruments on behaviour, which was not acceptable in my opinion or on learning difficulties, which I often interpreted as laziness. Sometimes I reacted even with penalties.
After, or better with HANDLE, I have got a deep understanding for the situation of my pupils, for the underlying reasons for their behavior and/or learning difficulties. In many cases these difficulties are signs of neurodevelopmental difficulties. I have learned to accept behavior and even learning difficulties as signs of a need to stimulate the neuro system.
In more and more cases I try to satisfy these needs, for example by incorporating some HANDLE or similar activities into my lessons.”
Klaus Jaeckle, HANDLE Screener and Teacher, Germany
"The first thing that comes to mind is that I am never bored. I have tools that I can use with anyone, and everyone that I work with is so different that I am constantly challenged to be open-minded, creative and innovative to meet the unique needs of my clients. I feel that I am constantly growing and being invited to make new discoveries with every client I take on.
As a social worker I was taught how to help people “cope” with challenges, like a child who has difficulty sleeping. As a HANDLE Practitioner I have been taught how to help people resolve these same challenges. I like giving parents tools to help their child sleep better (some have even said it only took two days before there was a change), and helping people feel more balanced, focused and more productive.
When I first began my private practice I often felt nervous when I waited for a new family to arrive, would I be able to help them? Would they be able to work with me? Now I know that I don’t need to worry, the more I know the more I realize that I truly don’t know anything. I know nothing when someone arrives, I will just have to learn with them, and trust that if I follow the path so beautifully laid out by Judith, make observations, chart out the data, something will emerge and the next step will become clear. The more I can stay in the space of not knowing and trusting that the right tool will be available at the right time, the more people seem to appreciate what I give them.
In many ways HANDLE has become my life path or spiritual journey. It is what keeps me inspired to become more authentic with myself and others, cultivate inner trust and strive to be less judgmental and more open minded to life’s potential."
Elizabeth Frishkoff, HANDLE Practitioner and Instructor, Massachusetts USA
"The clarity that Practitioner level understanding brings to the questions of neurodevelopment in particular and human function in general.
The tools to explore with families, children infants &/or adults enabling us together to discover insights to the depths of their symptoms &/or challenges.
The knowledge to bring simplicity to the path of achieving personal goals.
The support of a community of like-minded HANDLE Affiliates."
Caroline Penn, Osteopath, HANDLE Practitioner and Instructor, Hertfordshire UK
"I'm working with someone who has tried all sorts of everything without success, and for her to turn to me after 3 weeks of doing HANDLE and say she can feel a difference, it's amazing.
HANDLE should be in every school, but it needs a health warning- you wont be able to stand in front of a class and teach without wanting to squeeze it in wherever you can!"
Kim Storey, Newly certified HANDLE Screener, Teacher and parent, North Yorkshire UK.
